We are now on a count-down to our departure on 12 June. We leave our Coolangatta apartment on 9 June and use that week for removalists, cleaners, etc. Luckily for us, the weekend of 6, 7 and 8 June is the Wintersun Festival in Coolangatta which we have never been to so we will have the opportunity to leave Coolangatta after a fun weekend.
Our first stop will be Dalby, 300 kms. west of Brisbane, where we will stay for 1 night after which we travel to Roma - 270 kms. west of Dalby on the Warrego Highway. Here we will stay for the weekend of 13 and 14 June and set up the caravan to the way we want it.
On the Monday, 15 June, we will travel north to a small town called Rolleston which will be 1 night and then further north to central Qld to a place called Claremont. Here we will meet up with some friends, Rosemary and Paul, who will join us on the north bound trip to Charters Towers. We will have 1 stop between Claremont and Charters Towers, Belyando Crossing Roadhouse.
Here is the commentary on this place: "Situated on the Gregory Highway, between Charters Towers and Claremont, the Roadhouse has 12 drive-through caravan sites with power but no water. Water sometimes is available from the tank adjacent to the amenities block. The park draws it's water from the river which is often dry but the water is not fit for drinking. The amenities are very good and management try to make the park look good but this is a battle in the harsh conditions". Sounds like a good spot for overnight .... we might make this one of our early nights!!
Will be in touch as we pass through these towns.
Love to all,
Ken and Frances xx
